About This PhotoThe Story Behind

The district of Güzelyalı, located in the Konak district of Izmir, is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Izmir. Being adjacent to Göztepe, especially on days when there are Göztepe matches, it becomes even more crowded and lively. It is extremely popular among young people and surrounded by cafes and restaurants. Although the name of the bridge opened in 1997, as Göztepe Şehit Kerem Oğuz Erbay Overpass, its popular name among the public is Güzelyalı Bridge. It has provided the opportunity for Izmir residents who want to walk on the beach to safely cross to the other side from Mustafa Kemal Beach Boulevard. The round structure seen in the photo is Göztepe Pier, from where you can take a pleasant ferry trip to Karşıyaka, Alsancak, and many other places. As someone who lived in Izmir from the age of 11 to 23, I lived in the house where I took this photo from the balcony for about 7 years. Our house in Susuzdede offered a 270-degree panoramic view of Izmir and spending time on the balcony was very enjoyable. I, who always define myself as an Izmir resident, one day definitely want to return to Izmir and live there.
