About This PhotoThe Story Behind

These terraced structures located in the remote corner of Machu Picchu were used as a research and development laboratory by the Incas. Different plants were grown and efforts were made to increase productivity in soils with varying characteristics found on each step. The huts you see in the background were resting points for the scouts continuing on to Huayna Picchu.
