Art Et Metiers
About This PhotoThe Story Behind
This photo was taken at the Arts et Métiers metro station in Paris, a stop that stands out for its unique steampunk-inspired design. The station was renovated in 1994 for the bicentenary of the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, which it serves. As I stood on the platform, I was captivated by the copper panels that line the walls and ceiling, evoking an industrial and futuristic ambiance reminiscent of Jules Verne's 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea'. The lighting in the station enhances this effect, casting warm reflections off the metallic surfaces, and providing a rich, almost sepia-toned feel to the scene. I noticed the sleek curvature of the walls gives the space an organic feel, making it quite distinct from other stations in the city. Across the tracks, a train pulls into view, adding a sense of dynamism and movement to the stillness of the platform, where passengers wait, either immersed in their thoughts or engaged with their companions. The combination of architecture, light, and movement makes Arts et Métiers not just a transport stop but an experience for those who pass through. Capturing this scene was a personal challenge, blending my love for travel with photography to encapsulate the art inherent in everyday places.
