About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I took this photo during the cherry blossom season in Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, a place I've always wanted to visit during this time of year. The park is a popular spot in Tokyo, known for its beautiful sakura trees, and seeing it filled with people enjoying a sunny day was something special. From families having picnics to friends just hanging out, everyone seemed to be soaking in the moment. The pink blossoms looked incredible against the city skyline, showing that balance between nature and urban life that Tokyo does so well.
Shinjuku Gyoen itself has a mix of traditional Japanese landscaping and Western designs, which you can see in the way the gardens are laid out. It's actually one of the largest parks in Tokyo, and you can tell by just how many people it can accommodate without feeling cramped. The sakura season is a really big deal here, and it’s easy to understand why. The fleeting beauty of the blossoms makes each view feel unique and precious.
I used my FUJIFILM X-T5 with the XF16-80mm lens to get this shot. The lens was perfect for capturing both the wide view of the park and the details of the cherry blossoms. I love how the clouds add a bit of drama to the scene, and if you look closely, there's even a plane flying overhead, which adds a connection to the bustling city life around us.
Being here in Shinjuku during cherry blossom season was an amazing experience. If you ever get the chance to visit Tokyo in the spring, Shinjuku Gyoen should definitely be on your list. It’s a part of the city's identity, blending the traditional with the modern and offering a peaceful space within the busy city.
