About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I took this photo in Edinburgh, Scotland, on a day when the weather was just too nice to stay indoors. This is from a spot on Calton Hill, which gives one of the best views of the city. In the foreground, there’s a guy sketching or painting the scene. It’s a pretty popular place for artists because of the incredible vista it offers. To the left, you can see the Dugald Stewart Monument, which is a familiar sight on postcards and travel guides.
I used my Canon EOS 7D for this shot, and what I love about it is the depth the camera captured. The city unfolds with its mix of old and new architecture, stretching out under a bright blue sky. You can spot the classic Edinburgh silhouettes like the castle and Scott Monument in the distance.
Calton Hill is not just about the views; it’s filled with history. The hill is part of Edinburgh’s UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s also home to other monuments and can be a peaceful getaway from the bustling city below. I always find it fascinating how people, like the painter in the photo, take a moment to engage with their surroundings creatively. It’s like getting a different perspective on life from up here.
