About This PhotoThe Story Behind

I took this photo at Labadee Island in Haiti, which is actually more of a private resort site used by cruise ships. You can see one large cruise ship parked in the picture, sort of peeking out through the tropical plants. Labadee is in the Nord Department, and it's a spot that's really popular with tourists. People usually come here to enjoy the beaches and take part in water sports. I shot this using my Canon EOS 40D.

What I really like about this image is the way the cruise ship sort of sneaks into the scene behind the foliage. The trees create a nice natural frame around the ship, making it look as though it's hiding a bit. This was a cool perspective I wanted to capture, the mix of modern travel amidst all this lush, untouched nature.

The water here is such a bright turquoise, it's unreal. Seriously, standing there, you get this amazing sense of peace, hearing the waves, feeling the warm breeze. It's one of those moments where you're happy you have a camera to capture it, otherwise you might forget just how beautiful it was.
