The Hollywood Sign

The Hollywood Sign is an iconic landmark situated in Los Angeles, California. Originally constructed in 1923 to promote a real estate development known as "Hollywoodland," the sign featured large white letters illuminated by 4,000 light bulbs. Over the years, the sign became synonymous with the glitz and allure of Hollywood's entertainment industry. In 1949, the "land" portion of the sign was removed, leaving only "Hollywood."

By the late 1970s, neglect threatened the sign's existence, but a group of concerned citizens, including celebrities, rallied to restore it. Though located on protected land in the Hollywood Hills, the sign remains a popular attraction, visible from various hiking trails in Griffith Park.
