About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I took this photo during my trip to Amsterdam, capturing one of the city's famous landmarks, the Westerkerk. It's located right by the canal, providing a perfect backdrop against the typical Amsterdam scenery. The church is notable for its impressive 85-meter tower, which has stood as a part of the city's skyline since the 17th century. While wandering around, I loved how the blend of historical and modern elements came together. The lush green trees framing the image add a nice touch of nature, balancing out the urban setting.
My Canon EOS 7D and EF-S17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens were just right for this shot. The wide angle helped include the charming canal boat passing by, offering a slice of everyday life in Amsterdam. Canals are everywhere in the city, and they really define its character. Plus, the sky was a perfect shade of blue, making everything pop nicely.
It's interesting to note that the famous painter Rembrandt is buried in this church. Westerkerk holds a lot of history, and standing there, you can't help but feel connected to the past. Every direction you look offers something new yet timeless. I enjoyed capturing this moment where architecture and daily life intersect in such a picturesque way.
