About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I took this photo in Alblasserdam, Netherlands, where you can find these classic Dutch windmills lining the canal. This area is really peaceful, with the picturesque setting that you'd expect when you think of the Dutch countryside. I used my Canon EOS 7D with an EF24-105mm lens, trying to get a sense of depth and scale. The wide angle helped capture not just the windmills but also some of the natural landscape around them.
The windmills are part of the famous Kinderdijk system, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. They were built around 1740 to control the water levels. It's fascinating to see these structures still standing after all this time, serving as a reminder of innovative Dutch engineering.
While I was there, a boat passed by, providing a great contrast between the old and new. It's not just the sight of the windmills but the sound of the wind and water that makes the place special. Two cyclists came into the frame, adding a layer of life and movement. It felt like capturing a slice of everyday life in the Netherlands.
I hope this picture gives you a little glimpse into the serene, yet industrious, spirit of the Dutch landscape.
