There are basically three different methods to go to Machu Picchu:

- Following the Classic Inca Trail used by the Incas centuries ago, a 5-day trek ending at the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). This option is an extreme method recommended only for enthusiasts, as it can only be done with a tour guide.

- Taking a train from Cusco to Aguas Calientes and then buses to reach the entrance of Machu Picchu. This method is suitable for families with children. (Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to visit Machu Picchu with children.) However, be prepared for crowds as you enter through the gate visited by 4000 people daily.

- The hybrid method I also did, which is half train and half Inca Trail. Taking a train from Ollantaytambo to Chachabamba, starting the trek along the Urubamba River, and later connecting to the classic Inca trail, you will reach the Sun Gate to take your first Machu Picchu photos after about 6-7 hours. This option provides a more special experience as you reach Machu Picchu from above through the Sun Gate, avoiding the crowds. If you are confident in yourself physically, this method is fantastic.

Along the Classic Inca Trail, you will come across many Inca ruins. One of them, Winay Wayna, has houses along with terraces. The view against the Andes Mountains is breathtaking!
