About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I took this photo during my trip to Venice, Italy, which is one of those cities that seems to exist in a different time. The location is right near the famous San Giorgio Maggiore island, which you can see in the background. I’ve always been drawn to the classic Venetian vibes, and this spot captures a lot of that with the gondolas lined up on the water. There are three gondolas in the scene, each covered with blue tarps, resting calmly despite the bustling city around them.
The three street lamps in the foreground might seem ordinary at first glance, but there's something captivating about their old-world charm. They complement the scene beautifully. It's almost as if they're silently watching over the gondolas. The lamps' soft glow gives a warm contrast to the overcast sky, a typical feature of Venice, where water and weather constantly change the mood.
I shot this with my SONY DSC-R1, keeping the composition simple but meaningful. The overcast light provided a soft atmosphere, enhancing the calm feeling of the scene. Using this camera, I managed to create a gentle depth and bring out details in both the lamps and the gondolas.
Venice is full of these small moments and scenes that remind you of its history, and it was a pleasure to capture this one. Whether you're wandering along the canals or standing in the Piazza San Marco, you're always a part of this beautiful, floating world.
