About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I took this photo during my trip to Amsterdam, Netherlands. The view from above really highlights the charming rooftops that seem to stretch endlessly. Using my Canon EOS 7D with an EF24-105mm lens, I tried to capture the classic architecture that makes this city so unique. The red and brown roofs, mixed with the occasional hint of greenery, create a patchwork that’s just mesmerizing. What struck me most was how orderly yet eclectic the view appeared. From this angle, you can almost feel the history and charm of the narrow streets below.
Amsterdam is famous for its canals, but looking down, you realize how vital these rooftops are to its character as well. You can spot the classic Dutch gables and some modern touches, all coexisting in a fascinating blend of old and new. One fun fact is that many of these buildings have hooks at the top; they were traditionally used to hoist goods up through windows, which is still a practical feature in some contemporary renovations.
Standing at a good vantage point, I could see a bit of the city’s layers - each telling its own story. A wide-angle lens was perfect for this shot, allowing me to include as much of this captivating scene as possible without missing any details. It's almost like each roof has a story waiting to be told, which is part of what makes this cityscape so intriguing.
