About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I took this photo during my visit to the Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany. It's located not too far from Munich, in the Bavarian part of the country. The camp was one of the first Nazi concentration camps established, and wandering around the grounds is a powerful experience. In this shot, I focused on the barbed wire that surrounds the camp. It stood there as a constant, chilling reminder of the camp's grim history. The image is framed through that wire, which adds a haunting layer to the scene.
In the background, you can see the vast, open spaces where so many tragic events took place. Trees line the edge, and everything is subdued and quiet, reflecting the somber history. There's always a heavy atmosphere here, and it's a place where you can't help but reflect on the past.
I didn't use anything fancy to capture this shot, just my usual setup which allowed me to get the depth of field I was aiming for. It helps keep the focus on the foreboding wire, while the rest fades slightly into the background. It was a cloudy day, which somehow felt fitting, casting soft, diffused light across the whole scene. Visiting Dachau left a lasting impression on me, and I hope this photo conveys a bit of what it's like to stand there.
