About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I took this shot during my visit to Fushimi Inari in Kyoto, one of the most revered shrines in the city. The place is famous for its thousands of vibrant torii gates, creating a striking path that almost feels endless. Many people know it as a spot that’s constantly buzzing with tourists, making it quite tricky to capture a moment without a crowd in the frame. It took a bit of patience to get this scene just right. In the picture, there's a woman in traditional clothing carrying a parasol, walking through these gates. Her presence adds a timeless feel to the place, connecting the past with the present. The shrine has a rich history, being dedicated to Inari, the deity of rice, and featuring fox statues that are believed to be his/her messengers. The sprawling forested areas around the shrine add a serene backdrop to the vivid red gates, making every step feel like a journey back in time. My wide-angle lens helped me capture the expanse of these gates, providing a sense of scale and significance that flows through the image. It’s hard not to be moved by the peacefulness mixed with the vivid color of the gates, showing Kyoto’s blend of the spiritual and natural world.
