About This PhotoThe Story Behind

I took this photo inside Higashi Hongan-ji Temple in Kyoto during my recent trip. The temple has a rich history dating back to the 17th century when it was established by the Jodo Shinshu sect. It's one of the largest wooden structures in the world, and when you're inside, you can really feel its grandeur. In this shot, you can see the main hall, where people often sit quietly in reflection. The intricate woodwork and gold detailing are amazing, showcasing the traditional artistry that's lasted for centuries.

I shot this with my FUJIFILM X-T5 using a wide-angle lens which really helped capture the full breadth of the temple's interior. This temple is a peaceful spot right in the heart of Kyoto, and it's fascinating to think about all the history that's taken place here. Near the ceiling, you can notice the beautiful lantern and the detailed carvings that add a sense of elegance to the whole scene. It's not just a place for worship but also a spot where visitors from all over the world come to appreciate the cultural history and architecture.

Visiting Higashi Hongan-ji, you can also learn about its connection to the founder of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, Shinran Shonin. The presence of worshippers in the photo adds a sense of serenity and devotion, which is palpable when you're actually there. If you're ever in Kyoto, this temple is definitely worth a visit, not just to take photos, but to soak in its tranquil atmosphere and historical significance.
