About This PhotoThe Story Behind

I snapped this photo during a visit to Kyoto, Japan, at the iconic Kinkaku-ji, also known as the Golden Pavilion. This place is pretty special because the top two floors are covered in gold leaf, which gives it that shimmering look you can see here. I was using my FUJIFILM X-T5 with an XF16-80mm lens, which was perfect for capturing the intricate golden details up close.

Kinkaku-ji is a real symbol of Kyoto. It's surrounded by beautiful gardens and a calm pond, which reflects the building nicely when you see it in person. The pavilion was originally built back in 1397, which is hard to believe when you think about how well-kept it is today.

In this shot, I focused on the upper part of the pavilion, letting the gold details speak for themselves. The way the sunlight hit the gold seemed almost magical, adding warmth and depth to the structure. It's one of those scenes that you just have to see if you ever find yourself in Kyoto.

The architecture, with its Zen-influenced design, is something that draws you in. Every angle shows off something new, and I loved how the golden surfaces catch the light differently as the day goes on. This pavilion has been rebuilt a few times over the centuries due to damage from fires, but it continues to stand as a testament to Japan’s rich cultural heritage.

If you're into history or just beautiful sights, Kinkaku-ji is definitely worth a visit. I hope this photo gives you a little taste of its beauty.
