Heidelberg Overlook

About This PhotoThe Story Behind

I took this shot from a spot overlooking Heidelberg, one of my favorite views in Germany. It's amazing how the Neckar River winds its way through the old town. I used my Canon EOS 7D with a wide-angle lens to capture as much as I could. You can really see the contrast of the red rooftops against the greenery of the hills. In the middle, the Church of the Holy Spirit stands out. This church has been a part of Heidelberg for centuries and is a neat piece of the city’s history.

The town itself has this charming mix of old and new, with its historic structures nestled alongside modern-life elements. When you're up here, the view just takes a peaceful turn, making everything feel a bit slower. The greenery of the hills and the neat, organized pattern of the houses is something that really grabbed my attention.

Heidelberg also has a reputation for being a university town, and you can kind of feel the youthful energy mixed with the historic past when you're wandering around, especially when you spot students chatting on the streets or hanging around the plazas. It’s one of those places that feels alive and timeless at the same time. I think this photograph shows just a small slice of what makes this city stand out.
