About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I captured this photo during a quiet evening at the Higashi Hongan-ji Temple in Kyoto, Japan. It's a place that feels both peaceful and grand at night. The temple is beautifully illuminated, which really brings out its intricate architectural details against the night sky. I noticed the striking green lotus sculpture in the foreground, which adds an interesting element to the scene. This combination of traditional architecture and the modern lighting makes the temple look almost otherworldly.
When you visit Kyoto, Higashi Hongan-ji is one of the places you shouldn't miss. It's just a short walk from Kyoto Station, making it quite accessible for visitors. The temple is known for having one of the largest wooden structures in the world, which speaks to how impressive it is when you stand before it.
Using my FUJIFILM X-T5 with a XF16-80mm lens, I aimed to capture the temple's serene yet majestic presence. The mix of soft lighting and shadow play helped me showcase the depth and detail of the temple’s facade and the colorful sculpture. It’s amazing how a place can look so different just by nightfall, transforming what might be a familiar view into something entirely new.
