I Need To Sleep

A yawning vendor in Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, Ratchaburi, Thailand. I photographed her from a boat in one of the market canals during the day, while she drifted past with goods stacked in her small wooden boat.

What caught me right away was the timing. Her wide yawn lasted only a moment, and it changed the whole mood of the frame. The market around her was busy, crowded, and noisy, but that one expression made the scene feel personal and funny at the same time. It turned a familiar floating market photo into something much more human.

I like the contrast between her tired face and the bright colors around her. The large straw hat, the purple shirt, the red and blue umbrella in the background, and the soft reflections on the canal all help hold the picture together. Even with a lot happening behind her, the moment still feels clear because she stands out so strongly in the center of the frame.

I was shooting from close to water level, probably from another boat moving through the same canal, which gave the photo a more direct point of view. That angle matters here because it keeps me inside the scene instead of looking down on it from a bridge or walkway. It feels more like sharing the traffic on the water for a second.

The longer lens helped me isolate her from the clutter behind and compress the busy background just enough to keep the market atmosphere without losing the main expression. For me, that balance is the whole point of the photo. It shows the pace of daily work at Damnoen Saduak, but it also leaves room for a small, honest moment that almost anyone can relate to.
