About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I took this shot during a trip to Kyiv, Ukraine. This is inside the Khreschatyk Subway Station, which is part of the city's deep and impressive metro system. What caught my eye here were the elegant chandeliers hanging from the arched ceiling. They give the station a sort of retro, yet grand feel. It’s not just a transit hub but a walk through history. Despite being a busy place, I was able to capture a moment where the architecture really stands out. Kyiv’s metro is known for its artistic stations, a legacy from the Soviet era. This station, located at the heart of the city, is a perfect example. I used my Canon EOS 7D with an EF24-105mm lens, which allowed me to capture the wide view of the hallway. The lens was handy to emphasize the spaciousness and symmetry of this architectural space. People move quickly here, but there's a moment when time seems to slow down as you take in the art and design around you.
