About This PhotoThe Story Behind
A ferry crossing the Marmara Sea at sunset in Moda, Kadıköy, Istanbul. I took this in the early evening from Moda Sahili, during one of those soft orange sunset moments that makes the whole shoreline feel quieter and more intimate.
What I liked most was the simple balance in the scene. The ferry moving back toward the city gives the photo its center, but the real mood comes from the warm light, the still water, and the dark tree branches wrapping around the view. From this part of Moda Sahili, looking out from the waterfront park and coastal path, the horizon opens wide and the passing boats become part of the evening rhythm. There is something very gentle and romantic about watching a Prince Islands ferry head toward Istanbul while the sun drops lower behind the leaves.
I wanted to keep that feeling exactly as it was. I framed the boat between the trees so the sunset did not take over everything, and the branches could hold the light in a more personal way. The sun peeking through the leaves adds a softer glow instead of a full direct sunset, which felt right for Moda. It is a place where big views often feel private when you find the right corner.
The silhouettes in the foreground also mattered to me. They give the water and sky more depth, and they make the ferry stand out without forcing attention. I shot it with my phone’s longer lens, which helped me pull the ferry and the distant shoreline a little closer and keep the scene calm and compressed. For me, this is one of those very romantic Moda evenings that does not need much explanation. A boat, warm light, quiet water, and a few trees were enough.
