About This PhotoThe Story Behind

I captured this photo while walking through Stanford University's iconic quad. The picture showcases a stunning perspective of the sandstone arches that frame the lush green courtyard. The lighting was particularly enchanting as the low angle of the sun cast long shadows that added depth to the scene. These arches are part of the historic Main Quad, which forms the heart of Stanford University. The university was founded in 1885 by Leland and Jane Stanford in memory of their only child. It's fascinating how the architecture echoes the Romanesque and Mission Revival style, creating a feeling of timeless grandeur. In the center of the courtyard, you can see a statue by the renowned artist Auguste Rodin, adding an artistic touch to the academic environment. As I stood there, I couldn't help but admire the way the architecture and art harmonized with the natural surroundings, creating a serene yet inspiring atmosphere. The careful composition and the interplay of shadows make this one of my favorite captures from the visit.
