About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I took this photo on a peaceful morning in Amsterdam. It's one of those charming views you'd expect to find here, with the iconic canals and leaning houses. These houses have a quirky, tilted look that adds to their unique charm. They're not just decorative—many have leaned over time due to the wooden poles they're built on, which settle in the soft, peaty ground. It’s fascinating how they've stood for centuries.
In this shot, I'm standing by one of the many canals that weave through the city. Bicycles, a common sight in Amsterdam, line up along the bridge in the image. I used my Canon EOS 7D with an EF-S17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens for this image. The lens helped me capture the scene's depth, especially the reflection on the calm water below.
Amsterdam is well-known for its network of canals, and the area I photographed is not far from the Anne Frank House. This historic area of the city has lots of beautiful spots like this. The location adds a lot to the story of Amsterdam itself. The trees are just starting to change color, hinting at early autumn. It's a crisp time of year, perfectly captured with the natural light that morning.
Visiting Amsterdam and wandering around these streets makes you appreciate how much history is packed into these narrow facades. It's incredible to see how the city blends historical architecture with everyday life, making each walk a bit like traveling back in time.
