About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I captured this shot during my visit to Sankt-Peterburg, Russia, while exploring Zayachy Island. This spot gives a lovely view of the Neva River with the iconic Saint Isaac's Cathedral in the backdrop. You can also see the Rostral Columns, which were historically used as lighthouses. Shot this with my Canon EOS 7D, which made it easy to get all the details from the shoreline to the distant buildings. The weather was perfect, with clear skies that made the colors really pop. You can sense the calmness of the area despite it being a popular location for both tourists and locals. It's fascinating to witness how the river serves as both a natural and cultural hub in the city.
