About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I captured this shot during my trip to Narok County in Kenya, a place quite famous for its wildlife. Narok County is part of the renowned Maasai Mara, a popular spot for safari enthusiasts and wildlife photographers. It offers an incredible opportunity to see wildlife up close in their natural habitat.
In this particular photo, you can see a lioness shortly after a hunt. The intensity in her eyes and the little drops of blood around her mouth tell a story of survival and instinct. I was lucky enough to snap this with my Canon EOS 7D paired with a 100-400mm lens. This gear allowed me to maintain a good distance while still capturing the details, like the textures of her fur and her sharp, focused gaze.
The Maasai Mara is well-known for the Great Migration, where millions of wildebeests, zebras, and other animals make their way across the plains. However, the predators like this lioness are an equally fascinating part of this ecosystem. The lion prides are vital to the balance of the savannah, and being able to witness them in action is always a thrilling experience.
The landscape around here is open and vast, giving lions like her the perfect backdrop to blend in while they hunt. It's always an adventure to photograph in such raw and unpredictable settings. Every moment is unique, and there's a sense of unpredictability that keeps things exciting.
