About This PhotoThe Story Behind

I captured this photo during a walk around Amsterdam one evening. There’s something magical about how the city lights up at night. This shot shows the iconic canal houses along the water, typical of what you see in Amsterdam. These narrow, tall buildings have such character and history. They sit along the canal, reflecting beautifully in the water below. I used my Canon EOS 7D with an EF-S17-55mm lens to get the whole scene in focus. I especially love how the lights from the windows bring the buildings to life, even after dark. Amsterdam is filled with canals like this one; they’re everywhere! Did you know that there are more bicycles than people in Amsterdam? You can see a bike or two resting along the canal in this shot if you look closely. The city has a special charm at night that’s hard to describe—it’s a mix of tranquility and liveliness. Even though the streets are quiet, there’s still a vibrant energy. Walking here in the evening, you really get to enjoy the peace and the reflections of the century-old architecture in the water. It’s a favorite spot of mine, perfect for taking a deep breath and just enjoying the moment.
