About This PhotoThe Story Behind
This night shot is from my trip to Gent, Belgium, a picturesque city with an old-world charm. In this photo, you can see the iconic St. Nicholas' Church illuminated against the night sky. It’s one of the most beautiful examples of the Scheldt Gothic style, and it really stands out in the night light. I was using my Canon EOS 7D with the EF24-105mm lens to capture this scene, which allowed me to get all the intricate details of the architecture even in low light. What’s fascinating about Gent is its rich history, evident in structures like this, which date back centuries. You can spot the tram tracks leading into the heart of the city, adding a modern touch to this historic setting. It's amazing how Gent balances preservation and progress. I remember it being unusually quiet that night, making the scene feel almost magical. The lit-up buildings in the background, including the Belfry of Gent, further highlight the city’s grandeur and timelessness. Gent's nightscape is something I found quite serene, an ideal subject for night photography.
