About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I shot this photo in Narok County, Kenya, a place known for its stunning landscapes and wildlife. Watching these gulls take flight was really something. They all seemed to decide to lift off together, creating a beautiful chaos over the water. I used my Canon EOS 7D with a 100-400mm lens, which was perfect for capturing the scene from a distance without disturbing them. The natural light was just right, highlighting their wings as they soared.
Narok is such an interesting area. It's part of the Maasai Mara region, which you might have heard of because of the Great Migration. Although this picture is focused on gulls, the region is full of various wildlife all year round. The landscape around here is a mix of open plains, rivers, and hills. On that day, I was drawn to the movement and energy of the birds as they danced in the air.
One thing I love about photographing birds is how unpredictable they are. You never know when they’re going to take off or in which direction. It makes moments like these feel special when you capture them. I remember standing there, aiming my lens, and hoping to freeze that instant when they all burst into the sky.
This photo reminds me of the soundtrack of nature — the flapping wings and gentle breezes in the background. It was peaceful yet full of life. I spent the afternoon watching these birds, and I like how this shot turned out to represent that moment. It’s always a challenge to capture wildlife, but it’s always rewarding when you get those shots that tell a story.
