About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I snapped this shot during a walk through the bustling streets of London. There's something about seeing a mounted policeman that immediately grounds you in the city's rich history. This was on a typical day near Trafalgar Square, where the iconic red double-decker buses roll by as commuters and tourists go about their day. The mounted police not only keep the peace but also add a quaint touch to a city known for its blend of tradition and modernity.
The choice to photograph this scene was natural. The contrast of the policeman on horseback against the bright, vivid backdrop of the bus caught my eye. Using my Canon EOS 7D, I wanted to capture the moment with clarity while ensuring the vibrant colors of the bus and the sleek, dark coat of the horse stood out.
Horse-mounted officers in London have a long tradition. They are known for navigating through the often crowded and busy streets effectively. It’s a throwback to older times, yet they blend seamlessly into the contemporary urban landscape. London is full of these wonderful juxtapositions, where past and present intersect harmoniously. Taking this picture was a delightful reminder of London's unique charm and its respectful nod to history, even in its everyday scenes.
