About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I took this shot of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra during an evening stroll through Kyiv. It’s one of those places that has an incredible presence, especially at night. The golden domes stand out beautifully against the dark sky, and the snow-covered trees add a nice touch to the scene. Founded in 1051, this monastery is one of Ukraine’s oldest and a significant center of Eastern Orthodox Christianity. Walking toward it, you can feel a sense of history around you. I used my Canon EOS 7D with the EF24-105mm lens, which allowed me to capture the detail of the architecture even in low light. The lighting highlights the structure’s intricate details just perfectly. Capturing this moment was special because the peace of the evening and the sight of the illuminated domes made for a memorable experience.
