About This PhotoThe Story Behind
During my trip to Singapore, I spent a lot of time wandering through its vibrant neighborhoods. One of my favorite stops was the area with these beautifully preserved Peranakan houses. They’re in Joo Chiat, which is just a short distance from the city center. The architecture here is a mix of Chinese and Malay influences, known as Peranakan style. I love how each house has its own unique color; it feels like walking through a pastel painting. I took this shot with my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV. The wide-angle lens really helped in capturing the row of buildings and showing off their intricate designs and bright colors. Each house has unique details, from the ornate patterns on the walls to the colorful shutters above. This neighborhood feels alive with history and culture. Also, Joo Chiat was named after a wealthy Chinese landowner, Chew Joo Chiat, which adds another layer of local history to the area. These homes are a reminder of how diverse and rich Singapore's cultural tapestry is. I was lucky to be there on a clear day, which made the colors pop even more. Walking around, you get a real sense of the community that thrives here, with locals going about their daily routines and visitors like me capturing the beauty around us.
