About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I captured this shot of the 'Peterhof Express' while visiting Sankt-Peterburg, Russia. The city had always fascinated me with its unique blend of history and modernity, and the sight of this hydrofoil speeding across the Neva River felt like a perfect representation of that. The Peterhof Express is one of the quicker ways to get to the famous Peterhof Palace from Saint Petersburg, offering travelers a scenic and fun ride. In the background, you can see the golden dome of a local landmark, adding a touch of grandeur to the scene.
I used my Canon EOS 7D for this shot, capturing the motion of the hydrofoil as it skimmed the water’s surface. It’s amazing how this type of photography can convey a sense of speed and energy. The river was bustling that day, full of life and movement, and catching the Express in mid-action was a stroke of luck. I was drawn to the contrast between the calmness of the surrounding architecture and the dynamism of the boat.
The weather was great, with a gentle wind adding a little drama to the water’s surface. I hope this image conveys a bit of what makes Sankt-Peterburg such an exciting place to visit—its ability to maintain a dance between the old and new, between tranquility and motion. If you’re ever in the area, catching a ride on one of these hydrofoils might just be the highlight of your trip.
