About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I snapped this photo of a white rhino during my trip to Narok County in Kenya. The location is stunning and teeming with life, with the GPS coordinates being -1.477540, 35.107986 if you want to check the map. Narok is an incredible place for wildlife photography, known for its diverse landscapes and rich animal life. The rhino here is an impressive sight, peacefully grazing in its natural habitat. Seeing such a majestic animal up close was an unforgettable experience.
I used my Canon EOS 7D with a 100-400mm lens for this shot. The lens helped me keep a respectful distance while still capturing all the details of the rhino's textured skin and immense horn. I love how the trees in the background provide a natural frame, giving the photo a sense of depth.
White rhinos are fascinating creatures. They are actually not white, but their name likely comes from a mistranslation of the Dutch word 'wijde,' meaning wide, a reference to their mouth shape. These rhinos are usually found in the southern part of Africa, but a trip to Kenya wouldn't be complete without encountering them. It's sad to think of their endangered status, but moments like these help raise awareness and appreciation for their conservation.
Every time I look at this photo, I'm reminded of the peacefulness of that moment and the importance of preserving such incredible wildlife for future generations.
