About This PhotoThe Story Behind

I took this photo during my trip to Machu Picchu in Cuzco, Peru. This place is one of the most iconic archaeological sites in the world. The site was once the heart of the Inca Empire. What amazed me the most was how llamas seemed to be a natural part of the landscape here. They wander freely, almost like they're guardians of this ancient city.

While I was walking around, this llama caught my attention. The sheer size of Huayna Picchu in the background adds to the grandeur of the scene. The weather was perfect, with a clear sky framing the lush green terraces. I used my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV with the EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens, which helped me capture the intricate details of the terraces and the llama. The wide-angle was ideal for getting everything in the frame.

Machu Picchu stands at about 7,970 feet above sea level, which makes it quite a climb to get here. But it's worth every step. The mix of history, nature, and local culture makes it a magical place. Did you know that llamas and alpacas have been used by the Andean people for their wool, meat, and as pack animals for centuries? Just another reason they fit so naturally into the scenery.

I loved how the llamas interacted with the tourists; they seem curious yet indifferent, totally unbothered by the crowd. For anyone planning to visit, don’t miss the chance to take a moment and appreciate the incredible views all around you.
