About This PhotoThe Story Behind
I shot this photo during my trip to Narok County, Kenya. It was an incredible experience getting to observe these zebras in their natural habitat. You can see how they stand together, almost as if they're in a huddle, possibly discussing their next move in the vast savannah. The landscape here is breathtaking, marked by open fields and distant hills. Narok County is part of the larger Maasai Mara ecosystem, which is world-famous for its wildlife. The area is known for its annual wildebeest migration, but the resident animals like these zebras add to its magic year-round.
For this shot, I used a Canon EOS 7D with a 100-400mm lens, which allowed me to capture the details of their unique stripe patterns without disturbing them. It’s fascinating how each zebra's stripes are as unique as our fingerprints. In the background, the lush greenery merges with the dry golden grass, creating a contrast that truly represents the diverse Kenyan landscape.
While shooting, I was careful to stay a respectful distance away. Zebras can be quite social yet skittish animals, and I didn't want to disturb their natural behavior. This pack seemed quite at ease, however, continuing their grazing as I clicked away. It's these small moments in nature that I find most rewarding, sharing space with such beautiful creatures in a place that feels endlessly expansive.
