About This PhotoThe Story Behind
A pink classic car passes along Avenida de Bélgica in Old Havana, La Habana, Cuba. I took this photo in daylight during my time walking through the Centro Habana edge of the historic center, when the street was busy but still felt relaxed.
What caught my eye was the contrast between the car and the buildings behind it. The bright pink body cuts across the frame in a quick blur, while the old stone columns, balconies, and faded facades stay still and heavy in the background. That mix says a lot about Havana to me. The city often feels like movement passing through history, with everyday life rolling by in front of architecture that has been standing there for generations.
I photographed this from street level on the opposite side of the road, keeping the line of columns and the storefronts straight across the frame. The car moved fast enough to leave some motion blur, which was exactly what I wanted. I didn't need a perfectly sharp car here. The blur gives it energy and makes the scene feel more real, like a quick moment you notice while walking rather than a posed street photo.
I also like the smaller details in the background, especially the weathered textures, the ironwork on the balconies, and the sign for Centro Cultural Cubano Árabe. They help place the photo in a very specific part of Havana without making the frame feel crowded. The longer end of my zoom helped me compress the scene a little and isolate the car against the repeating columns. For me, the picture is less about a single vehicle and more about the rhythm of the street in Havana, where color, age, and motion all sit together naturally.
