About This PhotoThe Story Behind

I captured this shot during my trip to Nakuru County in Kenya. It's a serene place where nature feels untouched. The pelican, elegantly floating on the water, caught my attention immediately. Using my Canon EOS 7D with a 100-400mm lens was perfect for this situation. It allowed me to keep a respectful distance and still get close-up details of the bird without disrupting its peace.

Nakuru is known for its stunning wildlife and is home to Lake Nakuru, famous for its large flocks of flamingos. It's a great spot for bird watchers and photographers alike. I spent hours just observing and snapping away, enjoying how the light played on the water's surface. This particular day was calm, perfect for capturing reflections which added another layer to the composition.

The pelican seemed at ease, gently gliding with an occasional dip under the water. Moments like these remind me why I love wildlife photography – it's about patience and being in the right place at the right time. The scenery around Nakuru is pretty diverse, with mountains in the background adding depth to the photo. The mix of water plants around also framed the pelican nicely, adding a bit of color contrast.

This photo brings back memories of a quiet morning surrounded by nature. It's one of those peaceful scenes that stay with you long after leaving. If you're ever in Kenya, I'd recommend visiting. Whether you're into photography or just enjoy nature, this place offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It's more than just capturing images; it's about experiencing the moment.
